Virtual College Accessibility Statement
We are committed to making our online products accessible and are always looking for ways in which to further the accessibility of our products and services for ease of use to the widest possible audience.
We have a responsibility under the Equality Act 2010 to actively and continually work to increase the accessibility and usability of our e-learning module products’ content to meet current standards set by the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Accessibility Initiative (W3CWAI).
Our modules are SCORM 1.2 compliant conformant and our browser based e-learning resources can be delivered by any SCORM 1.2 Learning Management System (LMS). The module content itself is currently developed for Adobe Flash Player (an industry standard installed on over 99% of internet enabled desktops).
We are aware that Flash can cause issues for users attempting to access our content through screen readers, which we are working to improve. However, our content already addresses a number of key issues to make the content more eligible for a broader scope of users, including:
As with all open media mediums such as video and animation the factors which determine whether something will cause problems with people with epilepsy is down to the content developed not the platform. Here at the Virtual College we are always mindful that the content we create should not contain any flickering images or optical illusions that could cause seizures.

We work to continuously improve the accessibility of our products and in addition to the above all of our modules developed since January 2012 have the following additional accessibility features:
We are also currently working with the Keighley and District Association for the Blind to help identify key areas of accessibility that can be addressed and implemented into our content. When contacting you about a query related to a potential barrier to learning, we will

  1. Ensure no potential barrier to learning can be identified from our email subject title. We suggest you use the title "Productives Learning Enquiry", which we will also use. If you use a different email title and we reply to you, the title of our reply will be the same as the title you have used.
  2. Not refer to any potential barrier to learning in our reply but advise on any features you've asked about that would be helpful, for example enlarging text or changing background colour.
  3. Discuss your query only with you as the named learner and not with your colleagues, a line manager or partner if you are not available, unless a person assisting you contacts us on your behalf. In this case we will discuss your query directly with them on your behalf.
  4. Be mindful you may have to speak with us from an open plan work area and avoid you having to mention anything which might identify a potential barrier to learning, for example by asking you would you like help with font size, audio or changing screen colour, so you can reply yes or no.
  5. If we leave any message on a voicemail or Answer Phone it will only be "Please contact us about your learning enquiry".

We do this because we realise not everyone may have shared a potential barrier to learning with colleagues or their workplace. Thank you.
